I tried to use the slice tool to cut a solid in half, in order to create a new solid/geometry that is just half of the original. Select the Arc tool () or the Pie tool ( ). It should have 'cut' the form of the notch into the block's faces Now you can erase the cylinder group. You can use the Follow Me tool to mimic a lathe.
